Adoption Assistance

Adopting a child is an exciting time for you and your family! To support you, BMO provides reimbursement of eligible adoption-related expenses.

How it works

BMO will reimburse you for eligible adoption-related expenses for children under the age of 18 who are not related to either parent by birth or marriage. The maximum amount you will be reimbursed is $10,000, even if both parents work for BMO. Eligible expenses include:
  • Legal expenses and court fees
  • Adoption agency fees
  • Expenses related to transporting the child home from another country, including expenses incurred by the adoptive parent(s)
To be reimbursed for qualified adoption expenses, submit an Adoption Assistance Request for Reimbursement Form with the applicable documentation to BMO U.S. Benefits, as noted on the form. Once approved, the reimbursement will occur as part of the next regularly scheduled payroll. Your request for reimbursement must be made within six months after the adoption is final.
