Vacation

We offer time away from work when you need it most. It’s one way BMO supports your health and well-being.

The vacation time you receive is based on your length of service, total compensation grade, and employment status. You must track your vacation time in Workday. You can carry over a maximum of one week of unused vacation to the following year.

Maximum vacation accrual

The maximum vacation time you can accrue is 175% of your current year’s annual vacation amount. If you reach the maximum accrual cap, you will only accrue vacation once your balance is below the cap (i.e., you start using vacation time).

Here are the annual vacation hours for full-time employees working 40 hours per week.

Part-time Employees

To determine your annual vacation hours if you are a part-time employee:

  • Find the vacation entitlement hours in the chart above as if you were a full-time employee.
  • Prorate this amount based on the standard hours you are scheduled to work. For example, if you are a grade 7 working 30 hours per week, you would be eligible for 132 hours (176 hours x 30/40).
  • The maximum accrual cap is not prorated for part-time employees.

New to BMO

Your vacation hours are prorated in the year you are hired based on your start date. For details, review the Vacation Operating Procedure (accessible only from the BMO network).

Previously worked at BMO

If you worked for BMO as a permanent employee and return to work, you will be credited with your previous service time for vacation purposes.
